Our perspective on the vandalism against the Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center
Our hearts are with the Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center community, as they face another moment of pain, still grieving the loss of their synagogue and neighborhood after last year’s devastating Eaton fire.
We condemn this vandalism and the targeting of a synagogue with graffiti that read “RIP Renee Good. F*** Zionism.”
The conflation of Jews and the Israeli government is wrong and dangerous. Jews should not be made to answer for the actions of the State of Israel, and targeting a synagogue with these messages is antisemitic.
The implication that ICE’s heinous murder of Renee Good is linked to Zionism echoes erroneous conspiracy theories that wrongly attribute all societal ills to Jews.
The United States had a long history of state violence and repression long before the birth of the Zionist movement in the late 19th century and the founding of the State of Israel in 1948.
While some U.S. law enforcement agencies have relationships with Israeli police, suggesting that Israel is the source or primary driver of American racism or state violence is antisemitic.
We stand firmly against militarized violence against civilians anywhere, in Los Angeles and Minneapolis, in Israel/Palestine, in Iran, and in so many places around the world.
We stand with the members of PJTC and affirm the right of Jewish communities to safety, dignity, and the space to grieve and rebuild. As Jewish Angelenos, we are committed to a county where all people are welcome.
Established in 2025, Jewish Action for Los Angeles is working to build a Los Angeles where Jews and all people can live in dignity, prosperity, and safety. If you share our vision, please join our community at JewishActionforLA.org and become an official member.
